Update on Teething

Faith seems to be doing better, but we had a rough night last night, because this ordeal has caused her to become very needy and clingy.  She went to sleep fine at the beginning of the night, but then woke up around 11PM.  She would go right back to sleep in my arms, so I knew she wasn’t hurting, but when I’d go to lay her down again, she would cry and sit up in her crib.  As soon as she was back in my arms again, once again, she’d fall fast asleep. This went on until around 1AM and FINALLY, when I laid her down, she stayed asleep.  But then she woke up again around 5:45, and I just rocked her and we slept together in the recliner until about 7:30.  Of course, my day was starting because Allie was already up at this point, so no more naps for me, but laid Faith back down again, and she slept until around 9AM.

I do have a question for you guys.  She now has a fever blister on her mouth and her gums on the top around her front teeth look inflamed, and those aren’t the ones coming in, she’s had them.  Is this related to teething?  I may just run her in to see the ped tomorrow.  I’ve never experienced anything like this.

sounds like it could be hand/foot/mouth. that causes blisters in the mouth. Does she have any rash on her hands or feet?

I know, I’m calling the doctor right now. They have ulcers in their mouth. Yes…I said “they”…now both of them have it. *sigh*

that’s what I was going to say…it is supposed to be pretty painful! Also, some viruses can also cause ulcers in the mouth as well. I hope things get better soon and you can all get some rest.

Got back from the ped, it’s not hand foot mouth, it’s just a virus that causes nasty ulcers. The only thing I can do for them, is to continue with Ibuprofen and Tylenol, and the Orajel. Emma’s wasn’t too bad, but could get worse, and Faith had them in the back of her throat. So hopefully, it will be over in a few days. I’m going to dose them up with Ibuprofen and Tylenol right before they go to bed tonight, so hopefully that will get them through the night. We’ll see….

I hope things are getting better for you!

Poor girlies!!! I hope they’re feeling better!!

Owen had something similar as a baby & the ped recommended a mixture of mylanta & benadryl (or something like that) to help ease the pain from the blisters. They don’t really drink the meds, you just swish it around the mouth w/ a dropper or something. If they seem to be in pain it may be worth asking the Ped. about b/c it worked well for Owen.
