Shopping trips are just exhausting

How do you ladies do it?  Last night me and hubby plus the fab 3 went to the local mall.  I had to return some clothes and I wanted to get another pair of sneakers.  We took the single stroller and had the girls take turns in it.  We also had at one point all 3 of them out and running about.

I was exhausted but the great side was that they were too.  We put them to bed past their normal 8pm bedtime.  I think it was more like 9:30pm and they were out like a light.  They didn’t get up until about 8:30am this morning.

We used to use them as an alarm clock because once they were awake, they would make noises and wake us up.  Olivia loves to say.  Mami where are you? and after 3 times she tries Papi where are you? lol.  But NOW they are just sitting in their cribs waiting for us to come and get them.  Not sure I want to put them in big girl beds just yet.  I was going to wait until we started potty training which hasn’t happened yet.

Olivia will pee on the potty when we put her there and tap her belly and say pee pee.  She then says pee pee and trys to push something out.  9 times out of 10 she does something.  The one time she didn’t she said no pee pee.  lol.

Even though every night I go to bed exhausted, they are the highlight of my life.

Yeah…taking all four kids shopping is pretty exhausting for us too. Something we rarely ever do, unfortunately. Which means, most of the time, one of us will go shopping and might take a kid or two with us, while the other stays home with the rest. That’s pretty much what we do around here.

Yay for Olivia using the potty!! That’s awesome! Mine don’t even know what one is yet. Guess I need to get to working on it.

We never brave the mall w/o the double stroller. We do let them run & play on the playground at the mall but having them both “free” while we’re shopping is tough at this age. At target/grocery stores we’ll often get 2 carts so everyone can ride.

Congrats on the beginnings of potty training! Won’t it be nice to not have to change a million diapers every day?

I’ve been wondering when to move them to real beds, too. Owen had moved by 18 months b/c he refused to even get in the crib…he still ends up in our bed in the middle of the night every night. We’ll probably wait as long as possible (til they’re climbing out of the cribs). We’re finally sleeping through the night here so I’m not ready to make any significant changes. :-)

I here ya on that Keri. My sister let her twins sleep in their cribs until way past 2 years, they may have even been close to 3. They weren’t climbing out, and they loved their cribs. Even begged to go to bed at night, and still do. ;) (They are 7 now)

I’m embarrassed to say, mine are still sharing. We are still in the same situation that we have always been in. Not enough room.

Ruthie - as long as they’re sleeping I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve heard of twins who share a bed throughout childhood. We’ll probably keep using the cribs until they’re at least 2 1/2. I’ve already picked out their big boy beds, though. While I’d love to go ahead & get them (it would help their room be more organized since there’s storage built in) I think it would lead to more sleep frustrations right now.

I would agree on the whole crib issue. My girls don’t seem to mind being in theirs right now and even in the morning they play in there while mommy and daddy sleep in. LOL. I would think that it would be important to get them out of the crib once you start potty training since they may have to get up in the middle of the night.

I really have to work on getting the girls out more often. As of right now, I’m in the house with them all the time unless DH has the day off or my mom comes over to help out.

Cynthia - I’m bad about staying at home with them, too. It’s just so hot that getting them in the car is exhausting. Now that school has started back I’m hoping to take some day trips to the mall to play on the playground since it won’t be as crowded. It’s just so much easier when someone is around to help!

Owen potty trained so easily that I really don’t have much experience with that. He went from wearing pull-ups at night to not going at night at all so we’ve never had to deal with getting up at night to go. I’m not sure how to handle that, but I think it’ll be a while before they start waking up to go even if they’re “day trained”.

i plan on keeping sarah and samantha in the crib until at least 3!!! when we moved jordan and madeline from cribs(both around 15 - 18 months, we had nothing but sleep issues. jordan and madeline to this day still share a bed!!! mostly because of lack of room in our house too!
potty training - not even a thought here yet - who has time? LOL!!! seriously - they tell me when they have pooped and even go and get the diaper for me to change them, but every time i try to put them on the potty, all they want to do is find a toy to throw in it and say “uh oh!”
as far as the store - we basically take turns going and take 1/2 the kids with us and the other 1/2 stay home - if we do all venture out, we also get two carts(or they can both go in the same one at costco!
